High volume of tourism. infront of cruise ships dock. There is a lot of concret structures because of the hurrucanes of 2005. Buoys found and rope are because of areas that are marked for snorkelers.
The area has big challenges because of the cruise ships, and although we don´t have so much trash, it is relevant the damage of the silt in the coral soft and stony and the overgrowth of algae because of the same sediment. In this area we have the only coral farm in Cozumel and we have been succesful in restoring some áreas,but we always have to be with our brushes on hand.

Our team purposely choose to conduct the Dive Against Debris underneath a huge floating platform located in Payar Island. This platform is designed for snorkelers & divers coming from Penang Island and Langkawi Island as a pit stop for lunch, surface interval, resting area and changing area. Unfortunately, underneath this platform was found with many debris which mainly comes from the visitors from the platform.

Illegal fishing in the marine park. Fishing line is what we usually find at this dive site. Thankfully, it was mostly free of debris. This was an old piece, fairly well entangled in coral and sponge and the best job possible was done to not cause any damage and some fishing line which was sticking out was simply cut away, trying not to touch sponge or coral.
