Born and raised in Barbados, I’ve always had a close tie to the sea. My first job was in a dive shop – this is where I learned to dive, sail and navigate a wide range of vessels. As soon as I started diving and got to see reefs closer and for longer periods of time than before, as a snorkeler, I started to witness anchor damage, the effects of fish pots on reefs, and the devastating results of over-fishing on ocean ecosystem health. My passion in conservation is driven by the next generation. The ocean is my office, my playground and my happy and safe place. I want the ocean to be all these things and more for all the generations that follow.

I am a scuba diver, environmental activist and ocean lover! I fell in love with the ocean the first time I visited and haven’t stopped yet.  I started out just picking up trash on my own, but my passion soon grew and I started running clean ups in my community. 

My journey began in Egypt in 2011 when I took my first open water scuba diving course. It was then that I discovered my passion for the outdoors. I spent the next 3 years travelling to dive destinations and continuing my dive education as an open water scuba instructor in Indonesia in 2014. By this stage, my life and values had turned upside down. I grew concerned with the environmental issues I was seeing around me, like plastic pollution and overfishing.

When was the last time you did something for the first time? Something that made you excited to jump out of bed in the morning? For me, it was the goal I set to run a half marathon for the first time last year as a Finathon fundraiser...

Four shark and ray species, who deserve to be better loved, have been nominated in the Wildscreen’s Arkive #LoveSpecies campaign by conservation charities, including Project AWARE, to raise awareness of the plight of these under-appreciated and unloved sea creatures.

I have been diving since 1999 and a PADI instructor since 2002, and am currently a Platinum Course Director.  The PADI lifestyle and the underwater world has enabled me to experience many different cultures and amazing things above and below the surface.  I hope we can better protect the underwater environment so many others will be able to travel and dive the world in the future too.
