Here at Project AWARE, we’re firm believers that when scuba divers come together, we have the capacity to make great strides for ocean protection. Just last month, two of our supporters globe-trotted in pursuit of their support for ocean protection: running the Chicago Marathon as a Finathon® fundraiser for Project AWARE.

Fishing nations gathered for the annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) have taken a small yet unprecedented step toward establishing limits on blue shark catches from the North Atlantic, but failed to act on scientific advice to do the same for the South Atlantic.

This week, member countries of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) can take critical shark conservation steps at the 20th special meeting in Portugal, November 14-21.

The Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy adopted a Joint Communication today, proposing actions for safe, secure, clean and sustainably managed oceans. As a strong global actor, the European Union sets out an agenda for better ocean governance based on a cross-sectoral, rules-based international approach.

Born in Hong Kong in the late sixties, Eian Kee grew up on the small island of Lamma. With a home near the sea, he could smell the salt in the air and listen to the sound of waves crashing. He spent his youth swimming and snorkelling, the sensation of weightlessness and the silence underwater became an escape from the stress of daily life. With his first pay check, he eagerly signed up for scuba classes and began his diving journey.

Success was the word of the day, late on in the evening of October 22! However, it all started when the Project AWARE® Silent Auction launched on World Tourism Day, September 27.
