The dive against debris was operated by Anthony's Key Resort during PADI's Womens Week event that took place at the resort from 23rd-29th of July. Our Dive Against Debris was done on the Friday at then end of the week. We also had other events such as Fish ID seminars, Beer (soda!!) pong championships, an oceanic quiz, a relay race and a BBQ on the Beach party!!! Thanks to everyone involved it was a great week!!!
Pleasantly surprised about the lack of debris found on this dive site. Roatan Marine Park operates with diligence and great awareness to ensure we have rules in place to discourage waste. Most if not all dive operations on the island adhere to these rules and recommendations and as such creates a very clean environment in which to dive.
We did not find one single cigarette filter, which was amazing!
An entire fishing line with 6 hook and weights attached!

This effort was part of earth day 2016 where we did a multi beach clean up and then 2 dive against debris dives! what a day!!!
This site is technically not a dive site as it is mainly used to ferry tourists to the island of Koh Nangyuan. The importance of cleaning this site was at the forefront of importance as it rarely receives attention due to the amount of large ferry's constantly there. Because of its nature as a basic port there was an awful lot of plastic containers for food and drinks due to their being a take away restaurant on the island.
Since this clean up occurred the island has banned single use plastics and the area has already seen dramatic improvement on the plastic debris front.

Current breaks on the North side of Koh Tao often leave Northerly and Westerly dive site bays with regular build ups of trash, both on the surface and underwater.
