World Oceans Day celebration in Rio de Janeiro
Sunday jun 16th was another day of cleaning and environmental awareness at Praia Vermelha beach, in Rio de Janeiro. There were almost two hundred people acting and thinking about how to reduce waste generation, reuse and recycle. It was beautiful!
In addition to the fishing gear removed by divers, including batteries, hooks, spark plugs and tangled lines, the waste found at the beach and in the area of the Sugar Loaf Natural Monument were removed, sorted, and destined for recycling, when possible, or for proper disposal:
70 plastic caps
1200 cigarette butts
10 cans of beer
64 metal caps
6 aluminum rings
35 packets of biscuit
9 cups
3 glass bottles
1 bottle of medicine
19 plastic cutlery
135 Plastic Straws
21 plastic bottles
35 plastic cups
49 plastics that cover straws
6 cups of guaravita
