More than 200 volunteers joined forces in N'Gor Bay; this 10th edition of cleanup, initiated by #BarracudaClubDakar in collaboration with #ForumVIA, has achieved to date the sadly impressive amount of 8 tons of waste removed from the seabed and the beach. Despite the alarming report, the good mood was at the rendez-vous at this family, festive and educational event. We had the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Phone Group and the Mayor of N'Gor for the removal of waste after the event.

A major operation as the marine debris recovered from the bottom of the sea by Barracuda Club Dakar and Malick Sy firefighters divers were brought to the shore by N'Gor Island Surf Camp team before being weighed and sorted under the supervision of the volunteers of the International School of Dakar. The beach was stormed by the cleaners of Bri Action, Senegal Propre, the students Institut Universitaire de Pêche et Aquaculture, Centre Cportif Fayda, the elementary schools of N'Gor and several other collaborators and individuals who came give strong hand in this important action. In total, 765 kg of marine debris recovered by fourteen divers supported by six surfers and 820 kg of waste collected on the beach in 2 hours. We tryed to sort all the debris with Project Aware Protocole of 100 categories but the huge amout of debris didn't allow us to be sure of the data quality. This is why we aren't reporting our efforts in DAD surveys.

The public, appreciated the various activities, in particular a performance of the troupe of Theater-Forum Kaddu Yaraax on the problematic of waste. Also present at the event, the group  Zero Waste Senegal, hosted on the beach by "Les amis de la Baie de NGor", offered workshops on the use of alternative products to plastic and specific ways to reduce waste.

The activity was held as part of Awareness, Action, Celebration Week organized for World Environment Days (June 5) and World Ocean Day (June 8). Also on the program, Forum Via held a tour educational discussions to raise environmental awareness  in many schools ofDakar, in collaboration with Senegal Propre, the organization Aflatoun International, the Association Zero Waste and Barracuda Club Dakar. The Institut Universitaire des Pêches et Aquaculture (UCAD) presented a conference-debate while Falia Editions Enfance offered film projection and debates.
