Oriental Bay Underwater Clean Up

updates

We teamed up with Adventure Wellington for our annual clean up day at Oriental Bay.
Going on now for 7 years we are shocked and surprised by the amount of rubbish we find here each year.

We had a small group of 7 divers and a surface support crew of 4 who were not only cleaning up around the jetty but ready to help haul items up and decritter them. We had a small aquarium set up so members of the public could see the creatures that live in the area including sea stars, crabs, nudibranchs and a prawn.

These guys were so efficient they had cleaned and bagged the debris before the divers had returned so we were unable to sort & count everything for a Dive Against Debris survey.

The most common items were definitely food wrappers with bottles & cans a close second. We also collected 2 e-bikes, 2 e-scooters, a kids scooter and a ladder.
