Nautical Club of Vouliagmeni Clean Up | May 2017

Vouliagmeni
updates

On 14 May 2017, 50 volunteer free divers and students gathered at the Nautical Club of Vouliagmeni, Greece to participate in a shark aware seminar followed by an underwater clean up of the Nautical Club.

The children were very engaged throughout the shark aware seminar and had many questions about how they could help to protect the sea that they call "home". By the end of the seminar, they were ready and excited to start making an impact by doing a clean up of the area.

By the end of the day, 158 kilos of trash was collected. The children were shocked to see a shopping cart that was removed and couldn't believe that it had been sitting on the sea floor all this time. In addition to the shopping cart, we collected many plastic tubes and metal pipes, plastic bags, glass beer bottles and aluminum cans.

A big thank you to Vouliagmeni Nautical Club for hosting us.  We couldn't have achieved this without the help from our  volunteer free divers who removed the debris and the shark aware seminar students who helped to collect and properly weigh and dispose of the debris.
