Miss Scuba day at 8 acre lake

8 acre lake
updates

So me and the other two Miss Scuba UK finalists were meant to go to Eyemouth to dive for a couple of days however due to adverse weather it wasn't fit to dive so instead we went to 8 acre lake, who were my lovely sponsors for Miss Scuba UK to begin with and without them non of this would be possible. I've done all my training in the UK and absolutely love it, people don't think UK diving will be good cause its not warm and so surely there can't be a lot of marine life but those are just common midconceptions, the UK coastlines are extremely diverse with many species of fish, whales, dolphins, porpoises and seals, I have to say diving in the Farne isles with the seals was an amazing experience and a fond memory. If you can't get to the coast however there is plenty of inland dive sites which are usually large lakes or converted quarrys, they usually sink wrecks such as boats, cars planes into these dive sites and add some fresh water species to make it more interesting to dive.

I love 8 acre as its a small dive site but still has everything such as a small shop, classroom, changing rooms and toilets and its so close from the carpark to the water, so no long tiring walks with all your kit on!

We were guided on our dive by Mark Duncombe and Mark Abbott from Bespoke diving adventures based in Doncaster. Both Mark's are extremely professional and friendly dive professionals who instantly make you feel at ease no matter the situation, they teach diving through SSI (Scuba Schools international) and even though myself having done all my training with PADI, its really interesting to see the differences between the organisations and learn the skills the SSI way. I've had great fun learning the skills ever so slightly different as it now means I'm capable of doing the skills both the PADI way and SSI way.

While we were at 8 acre we saw the helicopter and a few boats as well as the knome garden and we did two dives in drysuits although the water was fairly warm at 18 degree Celsius which was surprising giving it was a rainy overcast day. We got loads of photos and I got my project aware metal straw, clean up bag, mares kit, head swimwear which is super pretty and my turtle can.

We finished off the day as all divers do off t'pub for a chilled debrief and some lovely food
