Divers save a shark in Abu Dhabi

updates

In mid July a group of intrepid divers were on a a local wreck dive in Abu Dhabi. The divers first encountered a few abandoned gargours around the wrecks at a depth of 25meter. Luckily the divers equipped with their cutting tools, cut through the fishing lines holding the fish traps underwater and freeing the marinelife caught inside the gargours. The gargours were banned by the government in the local waters since May 2019 to address the problems of overfishing.

Having completed the first wreck called Lion City, the divers headed to the next wreck called MV Ludwig. Captain Thusita spotted something floating ont he surface and thought it might have been a sea turtle in distress. Upon closer approach, we discovered it was a floating foam block and fishing line with shark caught on its fishing hook. The shark was  unable to dive down due to the floating block and a hook in its mouth. It was destined for a horrible until the divers took action and decided to try and free the black tip reef shark. Here is a small clip that recorded the actions of the all the helpful divers on the Al Mahara dive boat (see attached).

It was a good day for the divers and the shark! We want to thank all the divers who helped to save this small black tip shark from the fishemen's hook.
