Dive Against Debris volunteers now new friends!

Worth the effort to 'Dive Against Debris' for the gentle Hippocampus barbouri - spotted the day after our event, when our volunteers experienced an exploratory dive at a neighbouring 'macro heaven' reef in Tulamben!

Could it be possible that we appreciate making new diving friends as much as partaking in an underwater marine debris clean up!?
July 1st was our second Project AWARE Dive Against Debris event, and it was a roaring success! Volunteers were from all corners of the globe - Australia, Germany, France, United States - and they all share a love of our seas and oceans. After sharing a selfless contribution in collecting marine debris, all certified divers continued diving together to explore the beautiful reefs in Tulamben, Kubu and Amed (Bali's north east coastline) and became fast friends; no doubt lifelong friends!

Four experienced certified divers with hundreds of dives and excellent air consumption, 'scavenged' depths between 20-30 metres along the deepest edge of the USAT Liberty Shipwreck; eventually ascending to the shallow rocky area and turning their dive back to the entry/exit point.
A two diver buddy team concentrated their efforts between 10-20 metres, which includes the wreck itself (but fortunately there's not much marine debris found inside the wreck). They too eventually turned their dive back and dived gradually shallower when completing a course of the Liberty and joined with the team of four divers who had searched the deepest depths.
Five divers focused on the shallowest areas (between 2-10 metres), and found the most marine debris collected (mainly fishing lines and makeshift lures).

One diver celebrated by continuing her dive education to complete her PADI Advanced Open Water diver with one of our dedicated and passionate PADI Instructors, and our other volunteers participated in exploratory dives under our professional diving teams' experienced care and supervision underwater throughout their entire experience! A few divers were exemplary underwater photographers who relished a less explored dive area called Sidem in the small village of Batu Belah. This is where macro diving is at its very best, and its resident rare critters inspire divers to contribute in protecting our marine environment; even by simply improving their dive abilities and respecting the aquatic world will make a positive difference to what is so fragile, precious and uniquely beautiful.
