Covid-19 Underwater Clean-up dive at Lighthouse Bay - Koh Tao - Thailand

Covid-19 Clean up dive 2020
updates

I don't know if you have heard, but Koh Tao has been 100% Covid-19 free. To celebrate the anticipated approach of the opening of Thailand, Assava and Ban's Diving Resort staff and remaining guests, took part in a long overdue underwater clean-up.

It's been a couple of months since our last clean-up dive, and everyone was extremely excited to get back in the water and contribute to saving the environment.

On our recent dive at Lighthouse Bay our adopted reef site on Koh Tao, we collected a total of 46 Kg of marine debris.  The majority of items were plastic - 266 plastic bottles, 217 plastic fragments.  Other problem items were fishing nets and line, along with a torpedo fishing light, and half a crash helmet.

It is already evident that Covid-19 face masks are finding their way into the ocean, as it was the first item we found on the dive.

We hope to have a clean-up in the next week, so follow us on facebook @assavadiveresort for more information.
