Bunaken Jetty Clean Up May 2019

Project Aware Dive Against Debris at Bunaken Jetty Pier 2019
updates

On the afternoon of the 15th of May we organised a Project Aware Dive Against Debris at Bunaken Jetty. We had 9 Divers including guests MJ, Stephane and He Li and Divemaster Trainee Nick. The site is located where the daily ferry between Manado and Bunaken comes in and it is known to have debris. We found a lot of snack packets, material and clothing but the oddest thing we saw was a analog wall clock. This had animals already living inside and coral had grown around it so it was left underwater. At the end of the dive it was cool to see two baby lion fish hiding amongst on the coral and a blue Nudibranch which no one had seen before, later identified as Ceratosoma sinuatum.

Between 4 buddy teams we spent on average 49.5 min underwater and managed to collect a total of 37.78 Kg of debris. This was a successful clean up and hope we can get back to this site for another survey soon.
