AWARE Divers in Fiji

updates

We had an awesome two weeks in Fiji 27 Oct - 12 Nov 2017!  Ten divers, one non-diver, and lots of enthusiasm to learn more about the underwater world!

We spent one week at Matava on the island of Kadavu.  A fantastic, remote location far from the everyday bustle of our "normal" lives -- it was such a great experience getting truly off the grid and taking the opportunity to slow down, decompress, and focus on the natural beauty around us.  The diving was amazing.  For most of our group this was the first time to the South Pacific and the flora and fauna we found in the Fijian waters were so different than what we habitually see in the Caribbean.  And the Mantas!!  We went to Kadavu specifically because seeing mantas was a real possibility and we were not disappointed.  Such beautiful creatures.

The second week we were at Volivoli Beach Resort on the north side of Viti Levu.  A more 'upscale' dive resort - hey, it had power 24 hrs/day (well, mostly)!  A very different pace than at Matava, but truly a lovely experience.  The diving in the Bligh Waters did not disappoint -- so many beautiful soft corals!

Everyone pursued several new certifications including AWARE Shark Conservation, AWARE Coral Reef Conservation, and Fish Identification -- also originally an AWARE program.  Congratulations to all for embracing your role as ambassadors of our underwater world!
