In the Caribbean Bay Islands of Honduras, Utila Dive Centre is working hard to care for the delicate marine environment through research, community education and, most recently, the Utila Clean Up Festival, including a Dive Against Debris.

During the festival in July, island dive centers came together to remove underwater trash. Post-festival, Utila Dive Centre will take the next critical step and make their cleanup a bona fide Dive Against Debris by reporting their data to Project AWARE. “We are still collating the results and will report them,” says the dive center.

This may be Utila divers’ first time completing the brand new Dive Against Debris online submission process, but Utila Dive Centre is no stranger to marine conservation. Its permanent “green team” consists of several staff members who meet regularly to discuss, implement and monitor conservation activities.

Utila Dive Centre is also a founding member of 'Utila Centre for Marine Ecology' (UCME), a non-profit NGO headed by marine biologist, Dr Stephen Box. As a UCME member, its staff are committed to sharing their passion, enthusiasm and respect for the underwater world, reef systems, and mangroves with all visitors, professionals and the local community on Utila.
