A Smashing Shark Shout Out Success!
We reached a massive milestone during April’s Big Shark Shout Out and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Hundreds of supporters shouted for sharks and took AWARE's shark petition to the streets helping reach an impressive total of 100,000 signatures. These signatures give a stronger, united voice to push for trade protection for the world's most vulnerable shark species.
From Africa to Malaysia, Canada to Thailand, you have been standing up for endangered sharks before it’s too late. Big Shark Shout Out events this April proved that the diving community are dedicated to shark protection and that their love for sharks is stronger than ever before.
Big Shark Shout Our Highlights
The response to our Big Shark Shout Out this year was fantastic. Just some of the highlights were the Shark Raving Mad Camel Divers in Egypt who organised a fundraising quiz night and collected 147 signatures for the petition. The passionate divers of Trawangan Dive Centre in Indonesia who were joined by Finley, our shark ambassador, not only signed up to be a 100% AWARE partner but also organised a shark themed quiz night, created a video to encourage others to shout out for sharks and collected a huge number of shark petition signatures. Action Scuba in Montreal, Canada made a big splash by teaching the AWARE Shark Conservation Diver Speciality and making a commitment to try and turn each and every one of their divers into shark evangelists! A big high five also goes to Ban’s Dive Centre in Thailand who worked so hard during April to collect over 2400 signatures. Not only did their passion make such an impact on our signature count, they also showed their commitment to protecting sharks and became a 100% AWARE partner too.
Using your voice to turn the pressure up
Leading up to the Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) scheduled in March 2013 in Thailand, Project AWARE, armed with your signatures and your passion for sharks, will engage CITES delegates and use your voice to make profound arguments for change. We are determined to make your voice heard.
