Give Sharks a Fighting Chance at LIDS 2012

Project AWARE News

Divers and non-divers alike attending the London International Dive Show (#LIDS 2012) this weekend are in for a treat as marine ecologist and whale shark specialist Dr Simon J Pierce will be giving presentations with Project AWARE about whale shark conservation and ways to give sharks a fighting chance.

Simon will share his unique journey conserving the world’s largest and most charismatic fish. Over the past few years from his base in Tofo, Mozambique, Simon has identified over 600 individual whale sharks from the country. That’s about 18% of the known global population of the species!

Project AWARE has been supporting whale shark research and conservation efforts in Mozambique since 2006. Simon's most recent project has harnessed ‘citizen scientists’ to help expand his research efforts and secure Mozambique as a safe haven for whale sharks and other marine species.

Project AWARE regional coordinator, Jennifer Constant will be joining Simon Pierce to present you with the latest updates on Project AWARE's battle to secure shark protection to the most vulnerable shark species.

Both Simon and Jen are exceptional speakers, effectively sharing their knowledge and expertise in an entertaining and interactive way. So don't miss these presentations!
