Featured Destination: Micronesia
Featured from PADI.com: For having so many small islands, the area of Micronesia is a giant in the dive world. You can spend a lifetime island-hopping and still have more to discover. Although there are a number of island states in the area, the main destinations — Palau, Yap, Chuuk and Guam — evoke images of world-class undersea adventure. The Republic of Palau offers amazing shallow reefs, caverns, walls, major drop-offs, tunnels, channels, a legion of WWII wrecks and an almost limitless variety of marine life. The island of Yap, part of the Federated States of Micronesia, is about the closest it comes to a guarantee for manta encounters. Plus, there’s a lot more, including sharks, mandarin fish and pristine coral kingdoms. Chuuk, also part of the Federated States of Micronesia, is where the famed Truk Lagoon harbors an entire fleet of wrecked WWII fighting machines that are underwater ecosystems dripping with color and drama. Guam, an unincorporated United States Territory, is a place where you can actually visit a wreck from both WWI and WWII on the same dive. Micronesia offers what diver’s dream of – clear, warm water, unique dive experiences and incredible interactions with marine life.
