Australia’s Marine Park - The Final Push
We've done it. We've made our final push towards securing the very best protection for Australia's marine wildlife.
After four years of campaigning, our global movement has once again shown our unique connection with the ocean and strong love, desire and passion to protect it.
Just last year you helped create the world’s largest network of marine parks in the world – a network of parks spread throughout Australia’s Commonwealth waters. Together with our alliance partners, Protect Our Coral Sea and Save Our Marine Life, we’ve continued to drive home strong arguments to secure maximum protection for Australia’s network of marine parks, both for the benefit of the environment and the communities that depend on it.
It’s been a long process to get to where we are today. Several government submissions, online letters targeting Australia’s Environment Minister, community rallies and meetings to name just a few. The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities received over 680,000 submissions on the reserves and the management plans.
But as we navigate complex political processes and respond to lobbyists, our dedication and passion has never faltered. As we wait for the Australian Government’s final outcomes on how the parks will be managed we can be proud that together divers and ocean advocates around the world will continue do what we can to secure a brighter future for our ocean – our ocean that we love.
