Dive Location

If you know your survey site coordinates, enter them manually in decimal degrees using WGS84 Map Datum. Use the minus sign for latitudes south of the equator and longitudes west of the Prime Meridian to 180 degrees.

If you do not know your survey site coordinates, click the “Map Location” tab to use the map to zoom into your survey site and drop the pin on the map to fall within your survey dive site in the water (not on land or the beach). Ensure you zoom in as much as possible to ensure data accuracy.

An unusual artwork, over 300 informed tourists about #cleanseashore and 10 kg of marine litter brought to surface by 37 divers from Black Sea. This is the „catch” of the event organized by Mare Nostrum NGO on June 3, in order to mark World Environment Day.

Early in the morning, Mare Nostrum volunteers started the artwork of 16 000 cigarettes butts, the amount found on Romanian beaches during the last marine litter monitoring from October 2016. Meanwhile, a group of 37 divers explored the depths of Black Sea and „fished” about 10 kg of litter in 2 hours.

During the whole event, a group of 4 volunteers informed around 300 people regarding the problem of cigarette butts, because on the Romanian shore is the most common litter.

This was our first time reporting data for the Dive Against Debris and for Adopt a Dive Site programs. It was unplanned. One of our Instructors reported to us that she saw a net float in onto the House Reef while she was out on a DSD with a customer. So we decided to just use this opportunity to see how the full process works, it was a very short dive since we got there quickly before the net could really entangle itself onto the House Reef. There was roughly 500 meters of rope. It is likely that our future clean up dives will be much longer.
The 2 previous days (12th & 13th of June) the dive staff here at Orca Scuba Rawa witnessed a fisherman's boat fishing just off of our House Reefs (which are part of the Sultan Iskander Marine Park). During the day of the 13th, Marine Park boats boarded the fisherman's boat and escorted the boat out of the Marine Park waters. We believe the fishing lines, rope and crate were from that fisherman's boat and floated towards shore onto our House Reef on the 14th.
