Gili Trawangan, Indonesia
On the 7th and 8th of June 2017, The Gili Eco Trust (or YayasanEkosistemGili Indah)
are offering many hands on activities and environmental workshops on Gili Trawangan in aid of World Ocean Day.
Starting on the evening of 7th July and continuing all day on the 8th and into the evening, all activities, events and workshops are free for tourists, kids and local community. Some will carry on throughout the high season (June – September) to raise awareness for a long term sustainable future of Gili Trawangan.

- Presentations about climate change, oceans and coral reefs at Trawangan dive
- Ocean & marine quiz night at Trawangan dive
- Free shore dive from any dive shop to collect marine debris
- Beach clean ups from every diveshop and businesses who want to contribute
- Educational event at the local school: presentations about oceans / coral reefs / climate change / marine debris. Distribution of coloring books and pens about protection of the oceans/coral reefs to the kids
- Shark release (to be confirmed)
- Waste management RE-cycle tour: visiting Gili Eco Trust recycling projects and upcycling initatives
- Debris Free paddle boarding around the island to clean the surface of the oceans of plastic trash
- Bamboo ashtray making workshop in front of Manta Dive to spread ashtrays around the harbor area
- Building a recycling station from rebar in a shape of a turtle in front of Sama Sama Bar. Initially it will be used to put recyclable trash for easy collection to prevent it entering the sea. This structure will stay in place until the end of September with daily collection of the rubbish materials inside. Then the steel structure will become a Biorock reef to restore the corals around Trawangan.
