I have always admired the courage, tenacity and love of women, throughout my life I have met many women who inspire and demonstrate that there are no limits to meet challenges and dreams. Such is the case of three divers who have shown that with perseverance, courage and professionalism they have managed to motivate more women to enter the underwater world; since in the past diving in general was classified as an activity that only men could do ... Yes, diving.
Whether with open equipment (hooka), semi-closed (SCUBA), more than 30 women (daughters, sisters or wives of coastal fishermen) have inspired and motivated more women to enter the depths of the sea, by now I know more than 40 women who have incredible underwater stories.
On July 16, the “International Women's Day Diver” is celebrated around the world; This date is very important because it commemorates everything that comes with being a woman and even better, a diver. This year COBI opened a call for three community divers to be part of an expedition to celebrate, along with other women who dive, the great work they do within their communities.
During the selection process, enough applications were received, so the choice of participants in the Kino the Guardian expedition was quite complicated, since in the end only three women could participate.
Claudia Talamantes, Lizbeth Tamayo and Mitzy Leal were the divers who gained a pass to this amazing experience, over the years they have proven to be a source of inspiration and have shown leadership within their communities. Incredibly, each one of them was part of those intrepid women who ventured into the first generation of divers within their communities: Claudia in Ligui BCS, Lizbeth in Cozumel Quintana Roo Island and Mitzy in Natividad BCS Island.

All three started with this new adventure from the moment they started to complete their application and in the end they were notified as selected. Each one of them lived the experience in a different way, since they organized to leave everything ready in their work and to have time for this activity, talk with their family to count on their support and get adequate diving equipment for the expedition; in the end they shared the pleasure and joy of this part prior to the expedition.

When leaving each of their communities they traveled thousands of kilometers (from 900 km to 4,200 km) to reach all of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, so they had to get on a boat, ferry, bus, car or plane and thus arrive in the indicated date: August 19.
Arriving in Puerto Peñasco they met with the rest of the divers and crew of Kino el Guardián, where they had the opportunity and challenge to live with foreign divers (all spoke English) during the dives and expedition.
During the expedition they dived in 18 sites along the Sea of Cortez, experiencing new sensations and experiences such as night diving, deep diving, Nitrox diving, current diving and diving from a liveaboard. On several occasions they coexisted with fauna and conditions that they never imagined, managing to overcome fears and filling themselves with much joy during each dive.
Throughout the trip the divers formed a bond of friendship and companionship that characterizes them, which served so that they could dare to do unimaginable things such as diving in a reproductive colony of sea lions Zaluphus californiensis and diving at night.

Fortunately during the trip the spirits and the joy of being part of this experience were never lost and when the bell rang (called to dive) always Claudia, Mitzy and Liz were ready to listen carefully to the instructions of the dive site.
This expedition served as recognition for this great work that they have unconsciously carried out in their communities, since over the years both Clau, Liz and Mitzy have participated in many diving projects and expeditions, managing to inspire and motivate more women to put on new challenges and fulfill your goals and dreams. All the experiences and experiences presented to the rest of the expedition's divers caused the astonishment and admiration of the rest of the divers.
At the end of the expedition they all left with great energy and joy, all their experiences and experiences of the trip were shared by different means (social networks, community talks and phone calls) which caused quite a bit of acceptance and admiration for their followers and family. So I am sure that our super women will continue with the purpose of continuing to inspire and demonstrate to more women and men that we can achieve those challenges that seem so difficult to meet or to accept by other people.
