Scuba Leeds have collected over 15kgs of trash from the sea this year so far, and are keen to collect even more. After the success of our recent Splash for Trash dives, Scuba Leeds will be returning to North Landings beach in September to remove even more Trash (and enjoy a sea dive!).
Scuba Leeds are a 100% AWARE dive centre, so we are donning our fins to make a stand against debris. Join our team and grab a mesh bags to remove any debris we can find in the water. Every piece of trash we remove will be documented and the results submitted to Project AWARE. These dives do make a genuine impact on the health of our oceans.
Before our dive our team will be completing a beach clean up to make a difference below and above the water. It really is a great feeling making a real difference to our ocean and the local wildlife.
North Landings is an interesting dive site. The visibility can be poor due to the chalk cliffs but with a torch and a keen eye there are lots to see - Crabs, Starfish, Lobster and Flounder fish were spotted while swimming through the kelp. A max depth of 10m allows for a nice long dive to look between rocks, nooks and crannies for debris and marine life.
A steep entry to the beach and possible poor vis in the water means this one isn't for the faint hearted, but well worth the walk to the water. The site has good facilities, with ample parking, toilets, a cafe, and amazing views from the top of the cliffs across the north sea, its easy to see why this is becoming a favorite site to return to.
Our debris shore dives are providing to be very popular, with a chance to get out of the quarries and into the sea, while also contributing to cleaning our oceans and coastlines. If you have never completed a shore dive in the UK, come and gain some experience with an Instructor or Divermaster around to assist and offer advice.
To confirm you are joining our team for the day, please contact Ben at the dive centre on 0113 263 8977 or [email protected]. We hope to see you there!
