At the beginning of March, fishermen from Punta de Mita, Nayarit invited us to be part of a project to remove nets and garbage on the reefs where they fish.
This is a project where civil society organizations, government authorities and local fishermen collaborate, it is hoped to involve more users such as tourist diving companies and people from the community in general.
The main objective of the project is to remove all the nets and garbage found on the reefs, for this eight fishermen will be trained in SCUBA diving techniques with the PADI Open Water certification and specialties as well as their Advance course, to later take a specialty With the removal of nets given by Edgardo Ochoa, this project is joining efforts to show that with actions like these it is possible for fishermen themselves to promote the care and use of fishing resources, where fishermen, the government and civil society organizations work as coordinated by a common good, being the fishermen and the community in general the main beneficiaries of this project, since by removing the ghost nets and garbage the fish and invertebrate populations will benefit and in turn the health of their reefs
