Most popular diving sites in Pondicherry are owned by fishermen for fishing purposes. As one of the dive shops in Pondi, we work very closely with the fishermen because we understand how important they are to our ecosystem and we respect that the ocean is first their home, and only second our recreational spot! 

Keeping this in mind, we have planned two dives on 3rd March where 9 divers from Urban Nomad (Instructors, Dive Masters and support diving staff) will jump into 2 popular fishing and diving spots to clean up all the old and torn fishing nets that lie below. These nets are stuck too far below for the fishermen to remove but are also hazardous for divers who might get caught up in these nets. For preparation, an hour-long training session was conducted by an Aware Instructor, where the crew was briefed on the do's and don'ts of these dives. 

At the end of the dives, all the fishing nets will be handed over to the fishermen; and the crew can go home happy and content, knowing they made a small difference to a large community.
