Type of Debris ?

The area where we surveyed is an area where local boats are repaired. A lot of the staghorn coral has been destroyed by boats grounding on the reef and large debris (eg wood) being thrown in. Also there were huge amounts of paint cans and cans of epoxy resin, all of which probaably ha residue in them when they were thrown in. The rubbish that we found was conclusive with people repairing boats: paint and epoxy resin cans; clothes and cigarette packets from the workers.

This is a popular dive site for viewing the Mandarin Fish, they live in the shallow area of staghorn coral which is covered in litter (bottles, cans), and being broken by the large boat "Bianca" which moors over it - The boat never moves yet people live on it and throw their rubbish over the side onto the reef. Also repairs from the other boats in the bay re breaking the delicate coral.
