There are three elements we take very seriously on all Tokoriki tours: safety, fun and the environment. A while back landowners of this spectacular island, decided to make it officially a land and marine reserve. We relished the news as the diving and snorkelling around the island is some of our best and the island is home to some very unique flora and fauna.

The island and marine world is home to unique and rare tropical dry native forest, endangered Hawksbill Turtles which lay eggs on the island, the critically endangered Fijian Crested Iguana (Brachylophusvitiensis) which is only found in Fiji, and Wedge-Tailed Shearwaters (Puffinuspacificus), a native seabird that returns to the island to breed between October and April making their nests on the ground.

Birdlife International, alongside the National Trust of Fiji have spent the month of September camped on the island in an effort to remove the island of rats and feral goats. Goats are destroying the iguana and seabird habitat, eating the forest, collapsing seabird breeding burrows, and removing plants and fruits needed by the iguanas. Rats also prey on the young seabirds and reptiles.
