Shark Count Update

updates

Throughout the month of April, Tokoriki diving and snorkeling guests helped us count turtles, rays and sharks!

Between us we completed 70 surveys and recorded two species of turtles (Hawksbill and Green), four species of sharks (White Tip, Black Tip, Grey Reef and Tawny Nurse) and three species of rays (Blue spotted sting rays, Ribbon tailed rays and Eagle Rays), that live on the reefs around Tokoriki and beyond.

Results from Tokoriki Island Resort will go towards a nationwide survey to try to determine which species live where, and to get an idea of real numbers.

The Fiji Ministry of Fisheries, along with stakeholders such as Tokoriki’s Dive Centre, are lobbying to ban all commercial Shark fishing in Fiji.

We await the Government’s decision.
