Catch and Release

updates

Nothing is better than an early morning fishing trip, watching the first rays of light stretch out over the South Pacific, with the anticipation of bringing back lunch!

On arrival back at Tokoriki, guests can present their catch to the kitchen, where Chef Rainal and his team will expertly fillet the fish and present it in a stunning creation for lunch or dinner.

Eating fresh fish is one of life’s pleasures and the battle to catch it often a long lasting memory and holiday highlight.

However there are certain species of fish which if caught should be returned to the sea alive.  These include: all species of Shark, Marlin, Sailfish, Napoleon Wrasse and the mighty GT (Giant Trevally to the uninitiated).

These fish, either due to their threatened numbers, or the fact that, to the experienced angler, they are worth far more alive than dead, are strictly catch and release at Tokoriki Island Resort.

We have always enforced catch and release on billfish and sharks, but as of the month of April 2012 have added GTs to the list.

Smart conservation is the only way to ensure that fish stocks remain healthy on our local reefs.  We hope that other operators take note and follow suit.
