A Clean Start to 2015

updates

On Koh Tao during the period of November/December 2014 several festivities were hosted including the Christmas and New Years Celebrations leaving the island with an abundance of Debri both on land and underwater.  The weather conditions during this time, didn't help much as with the rain and waves and outer sea storms, several fisherman found shelter in our local bays around Koh Tao which only contributed to an increase in garbage/trash that was left behind.

Sunshine Divers and Ban's Diving Divemasters in Training, Instructors and Guests all took part in the underwater and Beach clean ups this January 2015.  On the 4th January - the baby sunshine boat ventured to Mango Bay for the first dive of the afternoon, and under the supervision of DMT Jeroen Jansen began the clean up with 8 divers, having collected approximately 3 kg of trash. Mostly found were paper and plastic bags.  The second dive was at Lighthouse Bay where more volunteers joined in with a total of 13 divers to scout the area and they came up with 80 kg of trash. Most interesting items found included a syringe, fishing hooks and a car tyre.

We would like to thank our guest divers for taking part including: Julian Gray, Natalie Wilson, Chris Humphrey, Leslie Otto, Liz Fouche, Tim Corporaal and all of the Staff and DMT's of Sunshine & Bans Diving Resort.
