Video of the new Coral Restoration Project on Boracay

updates

In August the dive pros of Boracay Island were invited to learn about and take part in a new coral reef restoration project organized by the Philippines Department of Science & Technology. We jumped at the chance to learn from the science team on their 5th project of coral transplantation.

I went along to help out, plus get some footage to share so more people can understand the issues and see rehabilitation techniques being developed to respond to degradation. The training covered finding suitable ‘corals of opportunity’ (which are fragments laying loose and unattached), plus two different transplantation techniques using both nursery frames and direct attachment with epoxy clay.

Take a look at the short video I made to learn more.
