Lauderdale-by-the-Sea - Anglin's Pier and Reef Clean-up (Free) Aug 2nd, 7:30 am - 9:30 am
On the beach at Commercial Boulevard, Anglin’s Pier extends 876 feet over the ocean and sits atop a coral reef. As a result of all the fishing activity, the coral reef below the pier is a repository for monofilament, sinkers, hooks, knives, fishing rods, cell phones, bottles and other debris. Divers need to wear good gloves and carry a pair of sea snips to cut fishing line. Fishing is limited to one side of the pier while divers below pick up debris on the opposite side. Divers place debris in buckets, which are then lifted up to the pier with ropes by volunteers. At its deepest end over the reef, the pier is in about 20 feet of water.
