Dive against debris in Menorca 2012

updates

Although I did not submit this activity to Project Aware at the time as I was not fully sure of the procedures, I have chosen to post it anyway

With the colaboration of the Ports authority and the club nautico of Ciutadella Menorca, I organized the activity through my old dive school Diving Center Ciutadella.

The day included two trips with cylinder and weights included, to the new port seawall to collect construction waste with beers a BBQ and paella afterwards.

The event was a success with over 15 people participating with two boats, we managed to get coverage in two of the local newspapers and IB3 the local TV channel

With around 500 / 600 kilos of building waste, reinforcing steel, tyres and plastic was removed from the seabed around a small portion of the outer wall.

I feel that several more dives would be required to complete the job as there is still quite a lot more rubbish down there.
