Dive Against Debris - October 17, 2015

updates

Alamo IDC divers finally made their first Dive Against Debris on Saturday, October 17, 2015.  Our first scheduled dive was cancelled due to red tide in Port Aransas a few weeks ago.  We collected trash at Canyon Lake in Texas which is a freshwater man-made lake used mostly for recreational uses such as boating, fishing, water skiing and diving.  We found many objects that did not belong in the lake such as a car door, car bumper, car roter, car tires and many, many beer cans. These trash items are perfect examples of human impact on a body of water due to these recreational activities.  Finding the car parts shows that people are under the impression that "out of sight, out of mind".  A body of water, especially the ocean, is thought of as a  big dumping site which is the mentality of people globally.  Now, after completing my first Dive Against Debris, I feel compelled to conduct more Dive Against Debris events.  I look forward to having an event in the Gulf of Mexico soon.
