GONG XI FA CAI !!!
Dear friends, it is this time of a year again... and I am wishing you and your families a wonderful Lunar New Year and a very happy, healthy and successful Year of the Monkey !!!

With this event comes a request to all of you to please take some simple actions to save sharks from extinction. It will take you only minutes to do that, will make you feel great and perhaps you will even make a few new friends...

Many of you work in corporate environments and will share a CNY lunch/ Lo Hei/ Yu Sheng with your departments. Here is what I ask you to do: Please write an email to your department heads AND Lo Hei organizers (typically either the PA/secretaries or sometimes HR) to ask them to pick restaurants that do not serve shark fin soup and why this is important to everybody. A list of such restaurants can be found e.g. here (or simply google it):

In Siemens, I used to write an email to all employees for Chinese New Year every year explaining why I am opposed to shark finning and that people please understand I will not join Lo Hei in case the restaurant serves the soup. It may sound funny but I actually received quite a number of return emails and made new friends this way too. You could attach links to videos or other resources that explain the situation in further detail. Please let me know if you need any such material. I am attaching some relevant links below.

Other actions you could take are: Reading more about the topic of shark finning and why sharks are so important to us, changing your facebook profile photo, write a simple status update in support, and not to forget: take a personal stance with selection of restaurants and the food you eat. Oh- and go diving more wink emoticon
