Dive Against Debris Dive a huge success

updates

We had a great morning this morning with the Dive gainst Debris Dive at Harbour Village Marina and the dive site something special.

We had a team of 20 people diving and surface support helping bring the trash to the skip we had delivered from our local garbage collectors Selebon.

We had a very successful morning with 17 divers and 2 snorkelers and a dinghy captain taking part.  In total we managed to remove about 150kg of trash from the Marina, Amber Point and something special from 9am until 12pm.  We also removed  a large amount of fishing line from the entrance to the Marina where it gets wrapped around the corals.   Selebon supported the event as part of “World Clean Up Day Bonaire” and provided the team with bottled water, snacks. trash bags and latex gloves and a small skip.  Silfredo Pican helped to secure this support from Selibon for us.   Two members from the Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire were also part of the event and provided wooden turtles to wrap fishing line around and were part of the diving team.   All of the volunteers had a great time and the atmosphere was enthusiastic and energetic.  The dive team, Marvis. Alfonso and Ken waded in to help as did Hipolito and Carlos from the Marina and La Balandra provided an excellent lunch.  It was a great team effort by Harbour Village Beach Club (including La Balandra), Harbour Village Marina and Great Adventures Bonaire who lead the drive.
