Scuba Junkie and DHL – supporting Dive Against Debris Month of Action!

updates

Scuba Junkie and DHL joined forces to support Project Aware’s Dive Against Debris Month of Action. Over the space of 5 days, a staggering 190kg of rubbish was collected in underwater clean ups, and 860kg in beach cleans...an amazing effort by a crew of 10 divers and 2 freedivers at Pulau Sibuan and Pulau Mabul in Sabah, Malaysia.

The results of the reef and beach clean ups can be seen in the gallery below. Even after collecting so much rubbish, the DHL team were keen to do more – so they expanded their environmental work to doing some coral transplants for our artificial reef project, as well as learning about the Reef Check programme. The enthusiasm and hard work of all the participants was great to see, and the team work inspiring.

DHL participated in Dive Against Debris as part of their ‘Go Clean’ outreach programme. Many thanks go to Hari, Michael, Frank, Ladi, Melanie, Brano, Petr and Paulo for taking such a unique approach and for travelling so far to tackle the problem of marine debris.

Scuba Junkie has  a long history of supporting Dive Against Debris, carrying out reef cleans at least once a week in the Semporna, Kota Kinabalu and Mabul regions of Sabah, as well as beach clean up operations. Rubbish and marine debris is a global problem – but we believe that consistent local efforts against trash is a major part of the solution.
