Earth day clean up of Koh Pu, Kata Beach

updates

On April 22nd 2013 Scuba Cat diving joined together with Go Eco Phuket to do a beach, reef and island clean up at Kata.

The divers and non divers met at 8:30am at the north end of Kata beach and were split into 3 groups. The non divers doing the beach clean up, the divers doing the reef clean up from the shore and the divers joining MV Scuba Sport on the clean up of the island of Koh Pu just of the headland of Kata.

Staff and customers were joined by another dive centre in Kata and 11 divers and 2 non divers went on board MV Scuba Sport via the dingy. She headed to Koh Pu just 10 mins travel time from the beach to clean the dive area. There had been a report of a large fishing net covering part of the reef.

The 11 divers split into 3 teams depening on experience level and began the underwater clean-up. One group did 1 dive and the other did 2 dives removing mainly cans, bottles, fishing line and weights. The large net was no longer at the site.

A nice surprise was a large eagle ray spotted by 2 of the groups during the clean up.

Scuba Cat would like to thank everyone who participated for their time and efforts in keeping the local reefs clean.

This is the 3rd clean up of 2013 we are involved in and the next is planned for June.
