Rocket Friends Diving - Dive Against Debris 2015

updates

This was the first time Rocket Friends Diving organising the Dive Against Debris program. Our objective is to promote the ocean clean-up. For those unable to join the activities due to limited vacancy, please accept out apology. The activities were carried out in two days.

On the first day, 10-OCT-2015, team A went to Bayside Bay and Whisky Bay. Bad weather and low visibility made us unable to clean up the fishing nets in water deeper than 8 meters. However, we still collected 41.8kg debris including bottles, tin cans and a scuba tank with 1st stage.

On the second day, 17-Oct-2015, team B went to Sharp Island East. With the good weather and good visibility, the search activity went well. We found a lot of fishing nets there thus decided to continue on the same spot for the 2nd dive. It is tough for the participants as the debris and fishing nets are very heavy. 45kg of debris was collected, mainly fishing nets.

After classifying and recording the items we found, the rubbish are recycled according to the classifications

To summarise, the activities ran successfully. Hopefully, this help promoting a clean ocean. We wish no more rubbish to the ocean or otherwise a lot of marine life and corals will die. We need effort from everyone to make our ocean more beautiful and attractive.

Special thanks to: Shu Shu Ricky, Kevin, Gary and all the particiants.
