Dive Against Debris at Wied iz-Zurrieq 2014

updates

Last year’s clean up in Zurrieq cleared up the seabed from a large amount of litter, fishing nets and tyres.  This year we are happy to note that the amount of everyday litter (cans, glass bottles, plastics, chains etc.) has really reduced.  Finally, the common person is respecting the sea.  However we are very disappointed with the fact that the main item that was hauled out of the sea was once again rubber Tyres.

The amount of tyres taken out of the sea is incredible and is a sad reflection of how these people treat the sea.  A Tyre is not a debris caused by the common person but by persons who are using Zurrieq as their work place every day and instead of taking care of it they just use and abuse.

Supporting these events is our effort to  help  maintain places that we use while protecting the marine habitat, but these efforts have to come from everyone, and the fact that nothing was done after last year’s clean up to reduce the amount of tyres that are dumped in the sea is very disappointing.  These events are possible through initiatives of people like you, dive centres and divers that are always ready to volunteer and help out.  I am sure that same as us  the divers present in Zurrieq were not happy to haul out debris caused by irresponsible persons.

Am hoping that this will act as an eye opener to all.
