Recently I had the good fortune to be diving in the Maldives and a magical moment occured when we were approached by a whale shark. This beautiful creature displayed a great deal of curiosity not only about our boat but about the strange creatures (divers) that were swimming around under the boat. On more than one occasion the creature (nicknamed "Spot") swam right up to divers and actually looked them in the eye. I cant help but wonder if this wonderful event was it's way of telling us that he was highly intelligent, just curious or whether he was making a plea to us to think about the plight of his fellow creatures. Spending more than 30 mins with "Spot" was not only a rare occurance it now ranks as possibly the pivital moment of my diving career.
