Muck diving in Indonesia
Lembeh is the muck diving capital of the world. In diving lingo, muck refers to the sand/rubble bottom that is home to the most amazing invertebrate life I've ever experienced, most of them an inch or smaller. The colors and morphological variations are mind-boggling.
Unfortunately, there is also a lot of muck (mostly plastic debris) floating on the surface of the Lembeh Straits since it is a major shipping thoroughfare. It is disheartening to see so much non-biodegradable junk floating over this diver's paradise. Divers wanting to do a clean up project here has their work cut out out for them.
I hope that, if I ever return, I will find a strong ecotourism culture in place.
