Freshwater jellyfish and dumped alcohol

updates

Diver's Realm hosted a quarry cleanup at Redgranite Quarry on Saturday, September 17, 2011.  Volunteers dove for debris in the morning and stayed for a picnic. This is the time of year that Freshwater Jellyfish begin to appear in the quarry.

Much of what was collected comprised of beverage containers. Some of the beverage containers were still full. No alcohol is allowed at the quarry but kids bring it in anyway. When the cops make their rounds anything illegal gets tossed into the water. We also found some Bandaids, beach toys, clothes, sandals, sunglasses, cigarettes and plastic food bags. We found 2 drivers license, 1 scuba weight (not included in the total weight - the person who found it kept it – recycling at its best!).

We had 11 bags of trash totaling 159 pounds. A huge thanks to the volunteers that joined us on this brisk day.
