Get Ready for Debris Month of Action

updates

September is Debris Month of Action, when thousands of scuba divers around the world unite and take action against marine debris – the ocean’s silent killer.

Join Project AWARE this September. It’s the ultimate volunteer opportunity to tap into your passion for the ocean and put your scuba skills to work for good.

Choose Your Adventure this Debris Month of Action:

1.       Join An EventNear You: Search the Action Map for dates and locations to dive in.

2.       Organize a Dive Against Debris: Add your dive details here.

3.      Teach the Dive Against Debris Distinctive Specialty Course: Become qualified with PADI and share your course details here.

Don’t Forget To:

1.Download Tools and Tips: The Dive Against Debris Survey Kit is the place to start.

2.Report Your Data: Help shine a light on marine debris issues and tackle them at the source. Your debris data will appear on the interactive Dive Against Debris Map.

Sound like fun? It certainly is, but there’s a serious side too. The trash from our everyday lives is smothering fragile reefs, choking marine life and costing local economies a fortune. Last September alone, Dive Against Debris volunteers removed more than 20,000 trash items from underwater environments. That’s a massive amount of rubbish removed in just one month, but we can do more!

Make All Your Dives a Dive Against Debris: It takes consistent, repeat and global action all year to support lasting change. You can join the fight any dive, anytime, anywhere.

Project AWARE’s ultimate goal is to prevent marine debris at the source. This means

  • Working with dive volunteers year-round: to remove and report trash from underwater environments and identify target areas in need.

  • Partnering with business in designing products with waste prevention in mind.

  • Working with all levels of government to develop and implement effective waste management policies and the infrastructure necessary for them to be effective.
