TRAWANGAN DIVE, GILI ISLANDS - WORLD OCEAN DAY EVENT $7500+

updates

This year in the Gili Islands, Indonesia; Trawangan Dive hosted the Gili Trawangan triathlon event in order to raise funds for world ocean day and also spread awareness about the cause. A variety of businesses took part including dive centers, restaurants, bars and local businesses.

The organizers of the event decided that one of the best ways to integrate the local children in the event would be to provide swimming lessons followed by face painting and beach cleanup games. There was also a mural construction of the collected trash.

The Triathlon consisted of three activities; swimming, cycling and running. The start and finish point of the cycling and running race was at Trawangan and being an Island the course consisted on one lap. Most local dive centers and local businesses competed in the event and everyone did a fantastic job raising money for our favorite cause.

Later in the day there was some live music provided by Jah on Holiday, S2B and Ray d’Sky who took some time out of their busy touring schedule to come over to The Gili Islands to support this great cause here a Trawangan Dive.

Other activities included a fire show and cocktail flaring show as well as a raffle consisting of many different prized donated by PADI and Project AWARE.

There was also an auction consisting on some higher value items such as a Komodo Livaboard trip provided by Blue Marlin Komodo and a Biorock conservation course provided by The Biorock Team here in The Gili Islands. And a full PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) provided by The Gili IDC here at Trawangan Dive, and a PADI staff Instructor Course also donated by us in the Trawangan Dive Go Pro Team.

Special thanks to Divemasters and Aqualung  for donating masks and snorkels for the local children.

All in all over $7500 was raised so far and the organizers are still counting.                                                                                                 Image removed.
