Koh Lanta Beach Clean Up 18th August 2012

updates

We have been organizing our weekly Beach Clean Ups this low season for a little over a month now, and although it would be wonderful to say that there was less rubbish on the beach, unfortunately, we can't. Ocean currents bring us rubbish from far afield and deposit it on our beaches. We remove as much of it as we can but for the next couple of months at least, we will have to face the large quantity of plastics and rubbish shown below.

It's not all bad news, though. We now award a prize for the most unusual item of litter recovered. Unfortunately, so many strange things were retrieved this time that it was impossible to find a winner! I'm not sure what is going on, but again, we found some rather unusal toys. And for the safety concious out there, a helmet and life-jacket washed up as well.

The most important thing we found was a great group of people from  Ocean Divers, Blue Planet Divers, Lanta Divers  and Hidden Depths Diving who came down and gave up their time to try and improve our beaches here on Koh Lanta. Thanks guys!
