From Fishermen to PADI Rescue Divers

updates

Congratulations to my newest Rescue Divers, Tam & Toom.

The success of these Thai twins is even greater as they are now following a new career path as Blue Guru dive centre assistants instead of as fishermen.

Blue Guru started training the twins on a pro bono basis in 2010 when they gained their Open Water diver certifications. In 2011 they progressed to Advanced Open Water divers and last month they completed EFR & Rescue courses.

Blue Guru aims to continue their training to Divemaster level, so that the boys can sustain an alternative professional income and act as passionate ambassadors protecting the local aquatic eco-systems, educating & influencing the local fishing communities to reduce marine debris & shark fishing.

The twins are now employed full time by Blue Guru performing vital dive centre duties such as compressor maintenance, tank filling & loading/washing kit. Their English speaking capability is developing daily which is great for customer service, staff communications & ultimately their DM training.
