Dahab Festival - Raising Awareness of Rubbish Pollution

updates

At the recent 7 day Dahab Festival there was a day focused on enviromental issues and events.  An excellent Documentary was shown about the world's over use of plastic http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/addicted-plastic/ , there was a workshop on creating art out of junk, and.....

the annual Dahab raft race across Masbat Bay.  Local dive centers  make rafts from rubbish and though the event is great fun it is a way of showing the importance of recycling.

H2O Divers had a brillant outrigger design. It floated well but due to the drag from the outrigger, it went round in circles - oops - the addition of a keal didn't help and was ripped off mid race. The last-miniute paddles (recycled BCD backplates) were a bit 'holey' too. By the end of the race it was clear that swimming it in was the best option.

We did clean up the broken bits of other rafts as we made our way across the bay - in last place.

Till next blog, Dom.
