Dive Against Debris - August
Once again we were back at the Taputeranga Marine Reserve , this time at Owhiro Bay.
This is one of our favourite dive sites with 4 accessible wrecks in the area. This means that there is a lot of man made matter underwater. After some big seas the wreckage has been further uncovered and there were lots of pieces to see. The site did look messy but we did not find any recent rubbish underwater - everything was associated with the wrecks so we left it in place as the wrecks were there before the reserve and are therefore covered by the Marine Reserves Act.
Unfortunately the same could not be said for the beach :(
We found pieces of glass and plastic, food wrappers, some blue twine, 1/2 a snorkel keeper and worse of all some masking tape that we know has come from other divers.
