Preserving nature in Borneo on snorkel!

updates

Just as with our popular 1-day snorkel safari program at our Gaya Island beach house, our group of adventurers’ from Denmark explores the tropical biodiversity of TAR Park at the same time as they selflessly volunteer to its conservation!

The Danes experience several attractions of Sabah, Borneo through eco-friendly packages in our 30-day Expedition Borneo! program.

Whilst camping at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, the adventure group learns how to dive on the PADI Open Water course and is given a unique education on the benefits of protecting nature. One of our experienced and dedicated PADI Instructors presents the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course, and as a team, our island staff organizes beach and underwater cleanups to collect marine debris in mesh bags!

We conduct one session of our snorkel safari program at one of our favourite sites to raise the awareness of our adventurers’. Particular sites in the TAR Park attract migrating blacktip reef sharks, which once sighted, our clients will see their worth to protect and be inspired to act!

It is especially special for activities to be combined with collecting marine debris, as it is the month of September that Project AWARE announce as the month of ridding marine debris. In this month, we’ve hosted a few beach and underwater cleanups with our clients also volunteering to contribute their efforts with their PADI professional guide! The biggest project was our own island staff team removing an enormous ‘Ghost Net’ from the fragile coral of one of the reefs we frequently dive. The destructive net was found sooner rather than later, which in a way is a consolation, so that it doesn’t do as much damage as it could.

It is because we frequently dive in our local environment that we found it and removed it as quick as possible, which is why PADI professionals have a duty to be ambassadors of environmental protection!
